Genomics Collaborative and NetGenics to build Genotypic DataMart

The new system will be capable of looking for trends and patterns in the genetic data as well as retrieving data seconds after submitting complex scientific queries. The Genotypic DataMart is being designed to offer enhanced support for data mining the ability to identify and characterize interrelationships without requiring a human to formulate specific questions.

The NetGenics DataMart approach integrates data into a central repository, enforcing semantic consistency and conformation to a single conceptual model and format and linking it with data from other sources. This permits direct queries of high volumes of disparate data for rapid decision support and data mining.

Our mission is to find and characterize the genetic determinants associated with common diseases, such as asthma, diabetes and prostate cancer, said Brent Richter, Director of Bioinformatics, Genomics Collaborative. This Genotypic DataMart will allow us to analyze and mine the depository of data we are collecting from our large-scale genotyping projects, and to link this to our extensive clinical and medical information collected with our samples. This will be done at the database level rather than at the application level, which is far more efficient.
