DoubleTwist releases second-generation annotated human genome database

The database and its associated search and visualization tools are accessible through the company's Web site (DoubleTwist.com) and can be licensed for installation through DoubleTwist's Prophecy database and tool suite.

"This upgraded database offers our customers a more complete view of the human genome," said John Couch, Chairman and CEO of DoubleTwist. "And, in combination with our Prophecy ToolKit, customers can now integrate their proprietary data with our Annotated Human Genome Database."

In addition to the database, the company also has introduced Prophecy Genes, a non-redundant set of human genes identified using DoubleTwist proprietary algorithm. The system is available as two distinct gene models - high selectivity and high sensitivity. The tool features summary cards, confidence ratings and support for each gene prediction.

DoubleTwist also has expanded its genomic analysis pipeline and software to include improved gene prediction methodologies and expanded gene representation capabilities. The database now includes approximately 500,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 100,000 sequence tag sites (STSs) mapped to more than 32,000 bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs), which are organized into contigs.

In May 2000, DoubleTwist announced that it had completed the first annotation of the human genome by running a series of gene prediction algorithms and additional computational analyses on the available sequence data from the Human Genome Project.
