DoubleTwist and Genomatix announce collaboration

Under the terms of the agreement, Genomatix will use DoubleTwist's annotated human genome database to enhance its promoter resource database for gene promoter analysis. In addition, DoubleTwist will be the exclusive distributor of the resulting data set and will integrate it into the bioinformatics pipeline used to create its human genome database. The database is available online through DoubleTwist.com and is also licensed with data mining and visualization software for use on a customer's internal computer network through DoubleTwist's Prophecy product.

Promoters act as the molecular switches that regulate gene expression, and each gene has at least one promoter upstream of the protein-encoding portion of the gene. Knowledge of the location of these regulatory regions can facilitate both the identification of genes and gene families, as well as prioritize their relative importance in the genome overall.

DoubleTwist has been at the forefront in developing and marketing products that facilitate genomic research by empowering scientists at every level of expertise, said Thomas Werner, CEO of Genomatix. More than simply combining data, this collaboration between GPR and DoubleTwist is highly synergistic.

Genomatix Software is a spin-off company of the GSF-National Research Center for Environment and Health in Munich, Germany.
