Digital health startup NuvoAir nets Most Valuable Patient Initiative award

The winner of the Most Valuable Patient Initiative award at our annual European awards this year points to the agile innovation that is happening outside of big pharma’s walls.

NuvoAir is a fast-growing digital health start-up working at the intersection between healthcare and technology and changing the way healthcare is delivered. NuvoAir combines hardware, software and data to improve lives of people suffering from respiratory conditions and to enable better and faster clinical decisions.

The company won the gong for its sophisticated smart spirometer — Air Next. It is an easy to use device for those living with life-long lung conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis.  Wirelessly connecting to an app, it generates personalized data that patients can use to monitor their condition and share updates with HCPs. The app also has a built-in adherence module, with reminders for medication, activity and spirometry tests.

Lorenzo Consoli, Co-founder and CEO of NuvoAir, was jubilant after the win. “This award will give us a great visibility from a commercial standpoint. It is also a testament to the work the team has done — both in NuvoAir and the physicians at the Royal Brompton Hospital. That is very important.”

The expert panel of judges — comprising patients, patient advocates, healthcare professionals and senior pharma executives — praised the device as a pioneering development in at-home diagnostics.

The other finalists for the Most Valuable Patient Initiative were:

Berok Zindagi by Cipli A nationwide campaign to tackle the stigma of using inhalers in India.

Klara, an allergy companion app — The first personalized allergy companion app to help suffers manage their allergies on the go.

Speak your migraine — Novartis and Health Unlimited launched a concerted online campaign to support migraine patients.

Ava the patient chatbot — Norgine launched Ava the patient chatbot as part of The PLENVU® patient support package — a suite of digital tools aimed to support patient experience and adherence to bowel preparation prior to colonoscopy, ensuing optimal outcomes and potentially saving lives.
