Novartis and GeneData collaborate on gene expression analysis

"Our agreement with GeneData begins with an important new collaboration in bioinformatics which extends Novartis Pharma's functional genomics research, and forwards our strategy whereby strong in-house groups are strengthened by alliances from among the best biotech companies and academic groups worldwide," said Paul Herrling, Head of Global Research at Novartis.

Novartis has completed the implementation of the GeneData Expressionist at all of its sites, where it can be accessed by its scientists through the company's Intranet. The system also is integrated into the company's global functional genomics data management system.

The GeneData Expressionist system is designed for analyzing large amounts of gene expression data from micro-arrays and meets the industrial criteria for the handling of data from various technologies such as Affymetrix GeneChip and Incyte GEMS. In addition, the system features technology-specific data quality control and statistical analysis capabilities and can be adapted to special applications within the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and biotechnology industries.
