Covidence selects CRF Box electronic data capture technology to collect clinical trial data

Diabetes, pain, oncology, and women's health are therapeutic areas that typically require complex patient diaries in clinical trials and will be the areas where Covidence and CRF Box initially concentrate their efforts. In addition the partnering companies will be offering investigator electronic data capture (EDC) later this year.

The choice of CRF Box patient connectivity technology comes after a long and painstaking evaluation of multiple propositions in the field, none of which really fitted the needs of our clients in terms of versatility, reliability and the ability to interface with our existing clinical data management platform, said Luc Opsomer, CEO Covidence. We see huge potential for accurate real-time patient data collection, and believe that with every second European now using a personal GSM phone and handheld technologies being widely adopted in Europe and the US, that ways will be found to collect such patient data in compliance with stringent confidentiality and regulatory standards. With our long-standing experience of managing and analysing close to 50,000 CRF pages per month, we see no problem in substantially increasing our capacity in order to deal with twice this volume in a timely manner and to the highest possible standards.

With both organisations driven by high quality standards and customer excellence, sponsor pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies will readily be able to determine that this partnership is not a marriage of marketing convenience but one of actual benefit and improved service provision to the industry, said Timo Ahopelto, CEO CRF Box.
