If improving patient compliance with chronic or co-morbid medical conditions is the challenge, you must first identify the multiple causes.
For the hundred million people that fill their prescription medications every year, we know the causes of most non-compliance issues and can solve most of the individual patient problems.
Unfortunately, you can't sell this solution to people for several reasons, especially considering that most people and caregivers think they are good medicine takers. Since the money is in the medicine, it would seem obvious that the affected industries would budget for improving patient compliance, adherence and persistence in the same manner as legal or marketing, inventory management or shrinkage.
This is proving to be much more difficult than actually improving patient compliance or reducing the risk of adverse drug events regardless of race, education, language or income.
Maybe someone in Accounting, Legal or Marketing will realize the opportunity to maximize profits and efficacy at the same time?
Until then, do not expect a different pharmaceutical treatment outcome until we change the way people take their prescrition medication in outpatient settings.
If Benjamin Franklin was here today, he would proclaim ours, A Revolutionary Invention!
Until then, we remain, A Viable Solution.
