Customer Innovator Award for Pfizer

Federico Santelmo, Platform Lead for the Customer Programs Department at Pfizer recognized with ‘Customer Innovator Award’ at eyeforpharma Latin America 2015

Federico Santelmo was celebrated for his commitment to customer-centric values with the ‘Customer Innovator Award’ at eyeforpharma Latin America 2015, announced yesterday at the inaugural ceremony celebrating industry innovators across the continent.

The Awards reflect eyeforpharma’s mission to make the pharmaceutical industry more open and valued by celebrating those who drive innovation that put the customer before profits. In a closely contested category, the ‘Customer Innovator’ award saw a common theme in submissions. Each candidate had identified that the best way to strengthen their brand was to deliver non-product services that used resources cheaply available to pharma to deliver needed support to practitioners, who would not have found the help elsewhere.

Santelmo supported the creation of a medical education resource that gave access to tens of thousands of medical journals through a virtual library that had zero cost to the healthcare professional. Delivered in Venezuela, it is hard to emphasize enough how needed this resource was, restrictions in the country had severely limited professional access to the current medical research, with hardcopy journals extremely difficult and expensive to import. This had the effect of isolating the practitioners and the patients from advances within the field.

Santelmo attributed a customer perspective as foundational to the program, stating, "Understanding customer needs first and then planning strategies and solutions accordingly. Separating ourselves from what the brand wants in order to get closer to what the customer wants, and that way embrace a customer focus to our work.”

Our winners were selected from over 60, with an even judging panel of representatives from academia, industry and healthcare systems. Other finalists for the award included leadership from Boehringer Ingelheim, Bayer, MSD, Pfizer and Sanofi.
