Startup Earns Its Place Among The Greats

Viver Health wins the health tech challenge at eyeforpharma Philadelphia

Big pharma is an integral part of the healthcare ecosystem. Its innovative drugs save millions of lives and improve the overall well-being of millions more. But to keep a market healthy you need an injection of new ideas. Startups provide that injection. They are not a threat but a sign that a market is functioning.

With that in mind, we launched the startup challenge at our annual Philadelphia event this year. Seven startups must battle it out over a three-minute elevator pitch to an audience of expectant pharma execs. The audience then votes for the startup that packed the most punch. The winner lands a spot on the keynote stage on the final day of the conference — an opportunity not to be scoffed at.

The startup that wowed the audience and won the challenge was Viver Health. The company researches and produces comprehensive programs that enable patients to supplement their treatments with wise nutrition and wellness guidance specific to a disease state.

Commenting on the win, Vicky Barghout, Viver Health’s founder said: “It was amazing to win the challenge. It validated that there is an unmet need for evidence-based knowledge in lifestyle and nutrition for patients, caregivers, and HCPs.”

She continues. “Viver Health’s mission to empower patients to take charge of their health and this was recognised and appreciated which created a momentum of combining medicine and wellness to enhance patient outcomes. Viver’s nutrition program complements the effectiveness of the overall treatment therapy in chronic diseases to improved adherence and quality of life.”

The win is also a personal triumph for Barghout. In 2010, the day before her second daughter was born, Barghout was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time she was running an Oncology division for Health Economics, Outcomes Research, Market Access and Pricing and knew the facts about the disease. Determined to beat cancer, Vicki researched all available evidence-based information about food and lifestyle to complement her traditional treatment.

Vicki founded Viver Health to educate and empower patients dealing with disease. It is at the leading edge of a pharma trend to complement classic treatment for chronic conditions.
