xbird wins the startup challenge at our annual European awards



Our annual event in Barcelona always promises to up the ante on the year before. The dates may stay the same, but the content and experience is more akin to a living organism — constantly evolving and adapting to the climate.

Against a climate of mega-mergers and acquisitions, we felt it was high-time to introduce some new talent into the mix. The result? The startup challenge: seven startups must battle it out over a three-minute elevator pitch to an audience of expectant pharma execs. The audience then vote for the startup that packs the most punch. The winning startup lands a spot on the keynote stage on the final day of the conference, which is not to be scoffed at. 

The startup that went down a storm was xbird — a company that has set out an ambitious stall: to tackle non-adherence through AI-driven personalized medicine. It has developed a technology that increases patient engagement and therapy adherence. By understanding the minutiae of individual patient behaviour, xbird is able to react to life events in real-time and support the patient by sending the right information at the right time. 

Remarking on his win, Sujka said, “We are extremely proud about winning the eyeforpharma startup award. It is great to get confirmation from such a high-caliber audience. 

“It was very useful to enter dialogue with so many decision-makers. We see that the traditional industry approaches are changing, and we are excited to be part of it.
